wow RedFeather! I'm glad you got to have such an amazing experience! There are very few of us who get the chance to interact with our therian sides like that, you're very lucky!Yes, I consider myself to be extremely lucky. If I had never been able to volunteer there, I'd most likely be considering myself a Utahraptor, lol. That's what I used to feel I was... and then at this raptor center, I started having these experiences which confirmed otherwise. I truly consider it a privilege, though, and it's something I am incredibly lucky to experience.
Yeah... that being welcomed thing is interesting. I find it happens with eagles, hawks and falcons for me, even though what I feel I actually am is red-tailed hawk. Also, birds of prey are known for being territorial and not always welcoming their own kind, unless it's mating, family, etc. But yet, they seem to all like me just fine, and I've never really had a huge problem with any of them. They seem calmer around me, in general, and I have this odd ability to communicate with them mentally. If I am cleaning cages and someone is freaking, out, I tell them what I'm doing and that I'm not going to bother them, and they calm right down. Sometimes if I'm outside and they're up there soaring (especially the hawks) I'll ask them to fly closer to me, and they'll fly right over me. One time I even had one fly over my head and keer (red-tail sound) when he did so. And at that very moment, he did. Things like that. Things which make me go "Did that just happen?" [Hehe, I have a cute little kestrel story I could tell...]
As to shifts, yeah, I know when I do shift, but so far, my shifts haven't been anything extreme, that I've felt. I tend to have phantom shifts when I'm relaxed, when I'd most likely be fluffing my feathers out. I'll feel my feathers the most.
I did have one odd thing that happened the other day, though. We had just been to the hot springs around here, and I was really relaxed. And Asazi said at some point, "When you were at the hot springs, a couple of times, I noticed your eyes looked brownish." An adult red-tail's eyes are brown. My human eyes are kind of a blue/green/gray color. Later on, when relaxed, I asked him if they looked brownish still, and he said they did a little bit.
Later that evening, I looked in the mirror, and I could kind of see what he was talking about. While you could still pick out the blue/green/gray, it was like my eyes were darker and did have brown in them. I've heard of that happening to therians before, but had never experienced it. It was very interesting.
(And no, I'm not at all claiming I can P-shift... I only wish. )
